What begins as a time travelling rescue mission turns into a quest to save the world, which takes players all the way from 65,000,000 BC to the end of time itself.Ĭhrono Trigger's story moves along at a brisk pace and never allow players to grow tired of a particular area or period of time. Naturally the teleportation device malfunctions and opens up a rift in time, which Marle ends up falling through. Crono and Marle become fast friends and go off to view Lucca's new invention together. While enjoying the festivities, Crono literally bumps into a stranger named Marle, who bears a familiar face and a mischievous personality. Crono heads to the fair in order to view his friend Lucca's latest invention, a teleportation machine. Without revealing too much of the plot, the game starts with main protagonist Crono being awoken by his mother on the day of the millennial fair. Nowhere is the game's quality more evident than within its story, which, despite not taking place in a particularly large world, manages to feel suitably epic thanks to the well implemented time travelling feature. Often dubbed the 'dream team' by RPG aficionados, it consisted of the Final Fantasy creator, a couple of Dragon Quest designers and a number of Final Fantasy composers. One reason why Chrono Trigger is held in such high regard is its development team. Luckily we can leave the time travelling to Crono and his crew, as Square Enix have finally come to their senses and released a European version of the excellent Chrono Trigger for the Nintendo DS. Or maybe we could travel back to 1999 and sweet-talk them into releasing the updated PS1 version. If only there was a way to travel back to 1995 and convince Square Enix to release a PAL version of the classic SNES RPG. However, what's worse is when a game of quality and repute doesn't make the journey at all, as was the case with Chrono Trigger. The waiting game can be a long and arduous process for fans of the genre, and it's such a letdown when a game finally arrives only for it to contain more bugs than an ant farm. In particular, RPGs of Japanese origin take a long time to arrive due to translation issues and the subsequent re-programming that goes with it.
PAL gamers have often been forced into waiting a long time for their favourite video games to be released.
